NaNoWriMo Is Coming!

NaNoWriMo is coming! NaNoWriMo is coming! *flails about madly*
Very quickly, for those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for Nation Novel Writing Month. Basically, the goal is to write a novel in one month, from November 1st – November 30th. You can sign up to take part in NaNoWriMo here or at the Young Writer’s Program here. It’s a lot of fun and a definite challenge, but I strongly encourage both teen and adult writers to take part. There are still 9 days left to sign up! (You totally should.)
I love NaNo because I think most teen writers and writers in general worry that it’s stupid to write a novel because they think it won’t ever get published, or don’t know how to write one, or worry that their first draft is going to be awful, or something else. NaNo gives you the push to just start writing and let your first draft suck, and I think it is so worth it.
Anyway, at TCWT, we’ll be celebrating NaNoWriMo through several posts throughout November, with tips and tricks for NaNoWriMo, basic encouragement, and the obligatory randomness/funny writing quotes and pictures. We even have a published author joining us to talk about her NaNo experience as well. Believe me, even if you aren’t doing NaNo, these posts can still be useful to you because they all apply to writing novels in general.
But the point of this post is to offer a call for guest posts, because we want YOU to share your NaNoWriMo story with us. So, do you have NaNoWriMo tips? Tricks? Encouragement? Have a personal NaNoWriMo experience, whether you won or lost, to share? Want to be a guest on TCWT? If so, please submit a guest post about anything NaNoWriMo related before November 10th to TeenRiter(at)gmail(dot)com (it’s preferred if you’re 13-20, but we’re allowing adults to submit posts, too). Anything under 2,000 words is fine. We can’t accept all guest posts, but whatever we can’t accept can always go up on your personal blog! And anyway, it can’t hurt to try; we’d love to have you!
TCWT Mailing List + Critique Giveaway…
After some thought, I’ve decided to start a small TCWT mailing list for anyone interested. The mailing list will be mostly fun, with one email every few weeks complete with fun writing pictures, teen writer news, links to teen writing contests outside of TCWT, links to some especially interesting writing related blog posts, and other stuff. I’ll also regularly offer critique and giveaway options to those who sign up. I promise not to spam, though, and very few of the information in the mailing list will be TCWT-related; it’s supposed to be a mix of fun and informative teen writer/writing news in general, and you can be taken off at any time. Just let me know. To sign up for the mailing list, just email TeenRiter(at)gmail(dot)com with the subject line “Mailing list” and I’ll add you to the list. (Thanks!)
But wait! One random person who signs up for our mailing list between now and Friday will win a first page critique by yours truly! Woohoo! (Seriously. I hope you sign up. All the cool kids are doing it.)

So, Are you doing NaNoWriMo? If so, link us to your profile!

Note: I might be posting the sign-ups for next month’s blog chain a day late. Sorry!

Added you! Have fun with NaNo.
How could I not? x) And you as well. Thanks for the add!
Haha, is this your first time?
Yup! I’ve signed up for it a few times before and it always seems to fall by the wayside. Now that I have a little more free time on my hands I thought I’d actually commit. It’s not your first I see though!
Hahaaaaa! I shall do my best to get onto you with a bloggie post very soon – I’m off on half term tomorrow, so sometime this week I should be able to get one to you
YAY! Can’t wait to read it.
Woohoo! Will get to it ASAP for you
Very much doing NaNo. Steampunk this year, baby.

WIN. (I also added you.)
I’ve sent you a guest post

Also, please tell me the GoT reference in the blog title was deliberate…
You know it was.
You’re a writer … you know our words.
NANOWRIMO IS COMING.
(Charley and I did one for each of the Houses, but I can’t remember them all. OUR PENCILS ARE SHARP was definitely one of them.)
Hahaha. I should’ve included this picture in the post: http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=408635175872627&set=a.325728304163315.75755.258913027511510&type=1&theater
You should have done, indeed.
I saw! Will read it tonight.
How do you pick between the normal one and the one for young writers?
It just depends what you want out of NaNo and the people you want to talk to. I do the normal NaNo site because I know more people there and tend to like hanging out there, but the YWP also seems like a ton of fun. There’s no difference in the actual NaNo; it’s all about the kinds of people you’d like to talk to on choosing sites. Make sense…?
I’m signed up for my VERY FIRST EVER NANO. I have no idea how it’ll go, since I’m currently drowning in homework, but…I guess we’ll see.

Yay! Friended you!
I’m on both the YWP (http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/user/698302) and the adult site (http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/participants/gwendolyn-copperstone)
I’m looking forward to the NaNo blog posts! And the mailing list, of course.
Friended you! Have fun at NaNo!
